Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at TLL@rugmatch.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The most common mistake people make is buying a rug that’s too small. A good rule of thumb is to let the front legs of your furniture sit on the rug in living areas and allow at least 18–24 inches of clearance around dining tables for chairs.

It depends on your needs. Wool is durable and naturally stain-resistant, cotton is soft and washable, synthetic fibers like polypropylene are great for high-traffic or pet-friendly homes, and jute or sisal add texture but are best for dry areas.

Check for even pile height, tightly woven backing, clear pattern definition, and natural fiber content (like wool or cotton). Hand-knotted and hand-tufted rugs typically offer superior craftsmanship and longevity.

Vacuum regularly (without the beater bar if possible), rotate every few months to distribute wear, and address spills immediately by blotting—not scrubbing. Always check care tags for fiber-specific cleaning tips.

  • Hand-knotted: Each knot is tied by hand—very durable, often heirloom quality.

  • Hand-tufted: Faster to make, with yarn punched into a backing—great value.

  • Machine-made: Loomed by machines, consistent patterns, and budget-friendly.

Yes. Rug pads prevent slipping, reduce wear, add cushioning, and protect your floors. Choose felt pads for larger rugs and non-slip rubber pads for small or entry rugs.

Absolutely! Layering adds texture, color, and warmth. Try a large neutral base (like jute or sisal) with a smaller patterned rug on top to define seating areas or add seasonal interest.

Light shedding is normal for new wool or tufted rugs. Vacuum gently once or twice a week for the first few months, and avoid pulling loose fibers—trim them instead.

With good care, quality rugs can last decades. Machine-made rugs typically last 5–10 years, while hand-knotted or natural fiber rugs can last 20+ years depending on traffic, care, and environment.
